Clockmaking, especially grandfather clocks and cuckoo clocks, was taken on and perfected as an art form in Germany since the 1600s — particularly in the Black Forest region. Therefore, it is not surprising that one of the best-known and internationally renowned makers of grandfather clocks still creating masterpieces today is the German clockmaker Hermle. Since being founded exactly a century ago in 1922, Hermle clocks have gained an international reputation for their extraordinarily precise clockwork and range of classic designs. From their magical telluriums to their historic tall-standing grandfather clocks, Hermle is the master of clock design and time-keeping.
One of the oldest grandfather clock makers still in production, AMS was founded in 1776 by Joseph Mayer in Germany’s Black Forest region. These clocks continue a long line of traditional designs, often complete with a moon dial and walnut finish.
